Multi Sectoral Business Session with MCCI in Association with KADIN


 A 19 member business delegation led by Merchant Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), Kolkata held a Joint Business Session with Indonesian Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Jakarta, Indonesia on 17July, 2019. The business delegation of MCCI was multi-sectoral, representing ceramics, wood, coal, paper, metals, tea, chemicals, agriculture, agro foresty and fintech. The Joint Business Session was followed by a B2B Session which was participated by 33 Indonesian Companies representing various sectors.


In the inaugural speech of the Joint Business Session, Ms Shinta W. Kamdani, Chairwoman for International Cooperation said that the delegation’s visit is a clear manifestation of resolve of the Indian business community to improve trade between the two countries and expressed happiness at the fast pace of B2B interactions taking place in various business sectors towards this end.


In his key note address, Mr Pradeep K Rawat, Ambassador mentioned that given that the combined size of the economies of both India and Indonesia is about 3.8 trillion US $, the target of reaching US $ 50 billion in bilateral trade by 2025 is doable. The pace of B2B contacts through visits of business delegation like that of MCCI would need to be kept up. Ambassador said that technology should be tapped to make more business connections and nurture those to arrive at mutually beneficial collaborations. He expressed the hope that with increased interaction among the businesses of both sides and creation of new channels of trade the basket of commodities traded can be enlarged from the present few to make it more sustainable.


Ms Dina Setiawati, Director of Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) in her presentation said that India’s Act East Policy has resulted in expansion of its presence in Indonesia, resulting in gradual growth of trade between the countries. Ms Setiawati gave an overview of the role of BKPM as a facilitator of investments in Indonesia and incentives offered by Indonesia towards the same. The Joint Business Session was also addressed Mr Vishal Jhajharia, President of MCCI, who gave an overview of MCCI and made a power point presentation on “India : The Emerging Investment Destination”.


The Multi Sectoral Business Session with MCCI Delegation, in association with KADIN, alongwith the B2B segment, has resulted in intensification of business contacts with Indonesia on a range of sectors and is expected to positively reflect on the overall trade between the two countries.
