5th International Day of Yoga Celebrations in Yogyakarta


     The 5th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated with much enthusiasm at world heritage site of Prambanan Temple, Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 23 June 2019. More than 1000 yoga enthusiasts from all walks of life participated in the celebration. The event started at 6.00 am with Artistic dance yoga performances by local yoga groups on popular Bollywood tunes. Two groups performed and were much appreciated. This was followed by welcome remarks from General Manager of Taman Wisata Candi (TWC). General Manager of TWC Mr. Aryono thanked Embassy of India Jakarta for initiating the celebrations of Main IDY 2019 event at Prambanan Temple and acknowledged the presence of H.E Ambassador of India Mr. Pradeep Kumar Rawat and H.E Deputy Minister of Tourism Republic of Indonesia Nia Niscaya. This was followed by Special Remarks by Ambassador of India. Ambassador wished all participants for attending the Yoga event and explained the importance of Yoga and its benefits to the health and happiness of an individual which culminates into a positive impact on the society. He also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia for partnering with the Embassy for this event. Mementos were presented by both Ambassador and Deputy Tourism Minister followed by Group Photo of all dignitaries. Thereafter, Yoga Guru from JNICC (Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre Jakarta) conducted Common Yoga Protocol to all participants amidst soothing Indian Classical Flute Music and rising sun under the grandeur of Prambanan temple as backdrop.


Many local Yoga Studios came in large numbers to participate in the Main event of 5th International Yoga Day (IDY) along with a large delegation from PT Busana Remaja company from Yogyakarta who brought a large number of their employees to attend the event.


The celebration of the 5th International Day of Yoga in Indonesia was co-sponsored by PT Indo Bharat Rayon. Free Yoga Mats, T-shirts were distributed to all who attended. Participation Certificates to all and attractive door prizes were also awarded by Embassy of India. Both Electronic and Print Media covered the event extensively. This year`s event of IDY was special as it also marks the celebrations of 70 years of Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and India (1949-2019).


The Embassy of India commemorated the 5th International Day of Yoga in different cities of Indonesia in the month of June to spread awareness about the importance and benefits of yoga among Indonesians, such as, at Bajra Sandhi Monument in Bali on 16 June, at Losari Beach Water Front in Makassar on 23 June, at Singapore National Academy in Surabaya on 23 June, Similarly, at Consulate General of India, Medan on 23 June. A Yoga event was also organized at Xanana Sports Center, in Dili, Timor Leste on 15 June.
