Celebration of 152nd Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
On the occasion of 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and United Nations International Day of Non-Violence, the Embassy of India in Jakarta hosted a limited reception and photo exhibition on “Life and works of Mahatma Gandhi” on 2nd October, 2021 at India House. The Ambassador of India to Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Manoj Kumar Bharti, and Ms. Anjali Sen, Country Representative, UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) presented their views and perspective on Mahatma Gandhi, where Ambassador also highlighted the significance of the occasion under the aegis of India@75 activities.
Ambassador H E Mr. Manoj Kumar Bharti reiterated about Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution and legacy across the world. Excellency also highlighted how Gandhian ways act as a sustainable tool for handling the modern world problems including maintaining harmony between men and nature, inclusive development, ongoing pandemic, and climate change.
Chief Guest, Ms. Anjali Sen reflected on how the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi resonate with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the relevance of ideas of passive resistance and non-violence in the modern world.
Ambassador and guests paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Member of Indian diaspora also took part in the cultural performance. A rendition of “Vaishnav Jan Te” and “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram” added to the grace of the evening. Cultural programme ended with a Kuchipudi dance performance.
Prominent among the guests present were Ambassadors of friendly nations including Bangladesh, Afghanistan, France, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Cambodia, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Czech Republic, Fiji and others. The event ended with guests enjoying assorted Indian delicacies on the occasion of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
